Fly Fishing School
fly fishing school student and instructor

We run a relaxed fly fishing school with the emphasis on fishing rather than bookwork and lectures. We briefly touch on many subjects the first morning, then we reinforce these lessons by being on the water. Beginners will be catching fish from the start and more advanced anglers will not have to hear lectures about subjects they already know; they will be fine tuning their skills with our instructors the very first day.

Our fly fishing school covers equipment, casting, knots, reading water, lake fishing with dry flies, nymphs, and streamers, large and small river fishing, and spring creek fishing. We will fly fish Merrell Lake, Tom Miner Creek, float the Yellowstone River, and fish Yellowstone National Park.

This fly fishing school is appropriate for all skill levels, including first timers and accomplished anglers. Our instructor to student ratio is 1 instructor for every 2 students, and everyone will receive the one on one instruction they need.

The school is a minimum of 3 nights and 2 days, and most students opt for 6 nights and 5 days. The cost is $450 per night and includes pickup and dropoff at Bozeman airport. Accomodations are deluxe lodge rooms with gourmet meals and daily maid service. We also include use of any equipment you might need during the fly fishing school. Waders, rod and reel, net, etc. are all available. We will ask you to pay for the flies you lose and for leaders. Your instructors will carry everything you might need as far as flies go, and you only pay for lost ones, not everyone you try. We do have a full fly shop on the grounds and we can help you with any purchases you might wish to make.

There are other activities at our lodge such as horseback riding, Yellowstone National Park tours, hiking, shooting, and of course, just plain relaxing. There are also some great shopping and sight seeing opportunities in the area. Please contact us with any questions you might have regarding our other activities.

2009 dates will be posted in December - email us if you would like to be on our notification list.
