The rooms for the guide school are in
the same building as our classroom. This is the original lodge that
started it all, a log building with spectacular views of Paradise
Valley. All rooms have twin beds and private baths, and you will
have access to laundry facilities. Linens, towels, etc. are all
supplied.
Meals are large and delicious. Guide school students actually eat with
our guides, which makes for great insight into the life of a guide.
Breakfast is fruit, sausage and bacon, eggs, pancakes, and more
made to order. Lunch is the same excellent lunch our guests get;
sandwiches, salad, fruit, chips, dessert and drinks, all served
on the water. Dinner is simple but good, and no one has ever gone
hungry at our place. Special dietary needs can be met with advance
notice. We have a great bar with a good wine selection and a very
good beer selection. You may bring hard liquor, if you like.
Fly fishing students will have
upgraded rooms, gourmet meals, and daily maid service. They will
take their meals in the dining room with our lodge guests and enjoy
the best cuisine our Cordon Bleu trained chefs can create. The deluxe
package entitles students to all the privileges that guests of Hubbard's
Yellowstone Lodge receive.
We have been taking people fishing on Merrell
Lake for over 25 years. Our original, 2 bedroom lodge is now
the owner's residence. 4 rooms were added to that building, then
our main
lodge was built in the 80's, followed by another building for
our fly shop, storage
facilities, and 6 additional rooms. Most recently, we added another
lodge with 4 rooms. The main
lodge(2nd picture) has been renovated many times, including
the merger of several rooms into larger rooms, a glassed
in dining facility overlooking the lake, a bar,
a large, sheltered back porch with serving facilities, and many
other minor improvements.
The lodge is in the middle of our 10,000 acre cattle/dude
ranch, which borders Yellowstone National Park. We do a lot
of horseback riding, and we have miles and miles of hiking trails.
We take horses up to an alpine lake for lunch and fishing. Sight
seeing in Yellowstone National Park is just down the road, a
week all by itself for some.
We fish our 85 acre spring fed lake, Merrell
Lake. Tom Miner
Creek runs for miles through our property, providing excellent small
stream fishing. 30 miles of the Yellowstone
River are visible
from our lodge, and we float
it nearly every day. We fish the north section of Yellowstone
Park, including the Madison, Firehole,
Upper Yellowstone, Lamar, Slough Creek, Soda Butte, Gallatin, Gardiner,
Lava Creek, and many lakes. We also fish the world famous spring
creeks outside of Livingston; DePuy's, Armstrong's(O'Hair's), and
Nelson's.
