Birding
Do it yourself
Are you a birder? Come stay with us and experience world class birding in the Rocky Mountains. Explore our 20+square mile ranch to find our vast array of species. Our variety of terrain ensures opportunities at many species of birds.
Mrs. Howard Lincoln, wife of the chairman of the Seattle Mariners, birds with us regularly. Her last trip included over fifty species in two days just on our ranch, let alone the vast expanse of National Forest land and all of Yellowstone National Park. Grace has said to us several times that we need to create a birding program, so we are finally listening. We have Swarovski binoculars and spotting scopes available for our guests. We have bird lists for the various areas on our ranch, and you can even go birding on horseback!
Our ranch has elevations from 5600 feet to nearly 9000 feet. Their are alpine meadows, many miles of creek bottom, an 85 acre lake, lodge pole, Douglas fir, and Quaking aspen groves to explore. The Yellowstone River is just a few miles away(you can see 15 miles of it from the lodge), Ramshorn Lake is less than two hours on horseback, and Yellowstone National Park is just twenty minutes away. We actually watch many raptors from above, giving a very unique perspective on these glorious birds.
Guided
We are developing a variety of guided trips. Please contact us for the options for guided birding trips. These tours will continue in the fine tradition that has earned us the Orvis Lodge of the Year for fly fishing. We will apply the same principles to our birding tours that we do to our award winning fly fishing.
