spring creeks
It just doesn't get any better than this. Let
me repeat, it just doesn't get any better than this. DePuy's, O'Hair's,
Nelson's, Benhardt's, and Thompson spring creeks are the ultimate
in fly fishing. They are private, "pay to play" fisheries
that provide the optimum conditions for fly fishing for trout. The
habitat supports huge numbers of fish, hatches that are consistent,
and water that is crystal clear.
Spring creek fishing is technical, often difficult
fishing. Despite seeing more fish than you could imagine, you may
still get skunked. Each fish landed will carry a great sense of
satisfaction because you will know you had to do everything just
right to catch that fish. And on good days, you can catch a lot
of large fish!
DePuy's, O'Hair's( or Armstrong's, as it is often
called ), and Nelson's spring creeks are all on the south side of
Livingston, just over 30 minutes from the lodge. DePuy's is the
largest creek, and has the most varied water. This is normally where
the greatest number of fish are taken, and it is generally regarded
as the easiest of the creeks. It is our favorite because of its
variety and size. It also takes the fewest anglers relative to its
size. Armstrong's is directly upstream from DePuy's, and actually
shares the same water. It is flatter water, and can be more dependent
on hatches than DePuy's. But on the right day, you will catch larger
and more fish here. Nelson's is across the Yellowstone from other
two creeks, and is the smallest of the three Livingston creeks.
And it has the largest fish, and the toughest fish.
Benhardt's and Thompson's spring creeks are on
Mileznick Ranch in Bozeman. These are newly "renovated"
creeks, winning several awards for their efforts. The fish here
are the ultimate in spooky, which makes them that much more rewarding
when you land them.
Please give us as much lead time as you can if
you would like to fish these creeks. There are limited number of
spots available, and they fill very fast.
